Submitting Articles, Race Reports, etc.
Be sure to click either the “Submit for Review” or “Publish” button (depending on your level of authorization) after you have finished composing and editing your posts! If you don’t see your post published within a few days, login, and click “Posts” near the top of the left column. Then click on “Drafts” above the list of Posts. These will be the posts you have not yet published or submitted for review. Drafts that are older than one month, may be subject to deletion without notice!
Now, in order to get to where you might submit a post, you must, of course, be logged in. Second, if you aren’t at your “Dashboard” page, then scroll down to the lower right column and click on “Site Admin”. Now you should be on the “Dashboard” page.
In the left column, you’ll see a section titled, “Posts”. Here are the links for adding, or editing your posts.
Comments
Most posts will have a place at the bottom to post your comments, answers, or follow-ups relating to that specific post. You may need to register and login to post comments
Behind Running Barefoot, the web site
RunningBarefoot.org is powered by WordPress 2.8, a multiuser blog content manager. This means that you (YES YOU!) can post your race reports, articles, etc.. By default these articles are moderated (and possibly edited for grammer, spelling, and clarity) by some of the Official Running Barefoot Representatives. Articles are usually approved within a few days, depending on what else we are busy with.
Guidelines for submitting articles
- If you are not the author, be sure to give due credit to the original authors and publisher in the text, and, if available, a link to the original article (in which case, you should quote only one or two sentences from the article here).
- If you would not say something in person, don’t write it online!
- Ddo not assume that everyone will know what you’re talking about – in general avoid cryptic terms
- If you feel you must use cryptic terms, such as, (c25k etc..) include an explanation of the term, and/or a link to relevant web site/page.
How to submit articles
- Register or Login on the Running Barefoot website.
- If you have Lost your Password
- Write your post.
- If you are not finished, but want to come back later, click Save.
- When you are finished, click “Publish” or “Submit for Review” (depending on your user level).
How do I make a Table of Contents?
Just format the title of each section of your post with “headers”
heading
,
heading
, etc.. (hint: in “Visual” mode, use the format dropdown menu in the editor -probably says, “Paragraph” – but drop-down shows options for “address”, and various levels of “headings”).
Table of comments is generated automatically from these headings/titles.
Categories
- Select appropriat categories. If you have selected a sub-category, there is no need to select the parent category. Your article will be included in the parent category (example: you won’t need to select the Run Report category, when the sub-category Marathon is selected.
Titles
- Try to make your title unique – you may not be the only barefooter ever to run the Los Angeles Marathon. (example: Los Angeles Marathon (2008 March 2) Saxton)
- Do not assume that everyone will understand your abreviations and acronyms, use the full name of the race or event (and most other terms, for that matter), and for courtesy, it’s a good idea to include a link to the official race website. Remember, we have readers of all ages, from all walks of life.
Posting Articles Written by Others
- If you do not have permission to post an article, but it is definitely related to Running Barefoot, just post a short excerpt, or paraphrase the related content, and post a link to the rest of the article – for example “more Running tips: Sole benefits“
- When posting a partial article, please include the full text of the article in the Custom Field “Full Text” (near the bottom of the edit/write page – you may need to click the “+” button on the Custom Fields bar), for archival purposes (in case the original article is later removed from the original location)
Posting Pictures
The easiest way to get pictures for posting, is to take your own camera, and ask a friend to shoot you. If you don’t have any friends, ask a stranger – just be sure it’s someone you can catch, in case they try to run away with your camera. This way, you don’t need to ask anyone, other than yourself, for permission to post your photos on line.
RunningBarefoot.org does have permission from the following photography companies for posting their photographs on line
- Brightroom.com
- FotoJack.com
For all others, be sure to ask for permission before posting.
Guidelines:
- Give due credit in the photo caption (eg; “courtesy Brightroom.com”)
- Include the identifier number of the photo in the name or description (so it can be located for purchase online by media and others – basically, you will be advertising for them, in exchange for being allowed to post the picture)
- Do not ask the photography company for free copies of the photos for posting. It is up to you to purchase a copy of the photos, or use the free proofs.
Just above the editing box, is an icon –
– which looks a bit like a television – move your mouse, so the curser is positioned over the box, and a pop-up information box should let you know the purpose of the icon is to “Add an Image”. Click the icon (not the one in this post), and follow the directions.
Editing Your Posts
- Now, at least for the time-being, contributors can go back and edit their own posts, even after they have been published. Please do not abuse this priviledge! If you do not want others to read your posts, then don’t post them here. But, it is very disturbing for people looking for some wisdom, that was previously published, only to find it has been removed.
